SEF Celebrates 20 years in Sherwood
The Sherwood Education Foundation has hit the ground running for our 20th year in Sherwood. As an organization we owe a debt of gratitude for all the parents who have over the years, built us up to where we are today. We look forward to our new board members and our new president – Carrie Mullins. Carrie has run our grant program for the last three years and her financial expertise has helped us put more resources into our classrooms.
We are beginning our Artist in Residence grant process, which brings outside artists into the elementary and middle schools to work with our students on group art projects. Our main classroom grant cycle will begin with the new year. These grants give our teachers additional equipment and resources to expand innovation and learning in the classrooms. Last year these grants brought in over $60,000 dollars.
These grant programs depend on what we can raise. Our two major fund raisers for the year will include our second annual Sip & Spell event on February 8th, and the Calling for Kids drive, on November 7-9. Our Calling for Kids drive will once again feature our middle and high school students making calls to Sherwood parents, asking for their support of SEF. Please take the call.
Last year, our first Sip & Spell event was a huge success. It will again be held at the Sherwood Arts Center and include a dinner, auction, and the popular Sherwood celebrity adult spell-bee. Last year the audience used pen and paper to try to keep up with our spellers. For me at least, it did not go well. Please look out for our upcoming table sponsorship and ticket sales information on our website and facebook pages. We are greatly looking forward to hosting this event again.
For twenty years, SEF as given the Sherwood community a means to support our schools and further enrich the education of our kids. With your help we can continue to do this work for many years to come.
